Using Google Insights for Search

Google Insights for Search

I run a number of workshops on marketing, and I am always surprised to hear that almost none of the participants have ever heard of Google Insights. So what is it? Well firstly it’s free, and with a price like that you’d probably not expect much, but it delivers big time across a number of areas.

Firstly, it’s great for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), it allows you to look at keywords and see how popular they are over time and by region, it also allows you to compare keywords, and graph the rise and fall of trends. Secondly, it’s great to see what’s hot and what’s not. The data collected by Google dates back to 2004, and you can even break it down by state, so QLD vs. Victoria etc.

So, let’s say I’m looking a developing a new product line for a client in retail, it might be a new range of cookware. I can use Insights to type in keywords relating to this field to see if the category of cookware is rising or declining, and indeed what geographical area is more likely to be receptive to the range. It’s such a great all round marketing tool that I simply love. So, go on, go try it, its Free after all. http://www.google.com/insights/search/

This is a great video clip to introduce you to the power of insights.
